Friend of Mine (Brownstein)

Wake up everyday thinking today will be different

But words don’t make change will it?

If in the end things keep getting worse

The only ones who care are the only ones who hurt

You can take it all in, you can let it all out

Compare yourself to everyone in a world of self doubt

Suggest this or that but you’re already too late

The time you had to work it was time you didn’t make

I look at you old friend of mine

And all the words that we have left behind

The same story just rearranged

You’re the only one with the power to change

It’s hard to see what happens next

But stick around and stand the test

You think this is all easy as if there’s no feeling behind our words

As if a stumble in our speech is the only thing you heard

Conclusions have been made so there’s nowhere for us to go

Collecting all these feelings until we explode

Picking up the pieces with splinters in every grab

Opening up our cuts before they can scab

Your least favorite song seems to be the only one playing

I know you are there but can you hear what we’re saying

I look at you old friend of mine

And all the words that we have left behind

The same story just rearranged

You’re the only one with the power to change

It’s hard to see what happens next

But stick around and stand the test

A glimpse of what things could be is never enough

Make every excuse as if it’s just too tough

We’re all in this together just look how we’ve grown

So why everyday do I feel so alone
